Jacek loves heavy metal, joyriding in his car and his dog. He enjoys being a cool outsider in an otherwise rather stuffy environment. Near his hometown on the Polish-German border, the world's largest statue of Jesus is to be built, and Jacek also works on the large construction site. But a serious accident at work leaves him disfigured. The first face transplant in the country is then carried out with great public interest. Jacek is celebrated as a national hero and martyr, the statue of Jesus grows higher and higher, but he no longer recognises himself in the mirror. While his likeness becomes a mask, the people around him show their true face... In an evil satire, the director reflects on theSzumowska the conditions in the native Poland between Catholic bigotry, a disinhibited consumer society and sensationalist tabloid media.
