A king rules his kingdom with clever foresight and to the satisfaction of his castle inhabitants. The beautiful Princess Amálka and her friends are admired and courted by the young scribes, who are also trained in courtly etiquette and fencing. While they are up to all sorts of mischief and jokes, young Janek has his eye on the princess. But does he stand a chance with the king's daughter?
When three strange guests arrive at the castle, led by the mysterious Dietrich (Maros Kramár), the cheerful atmosphere changes. The men claim that Janek has stolen from them and demand that Amálka be married to Dietrich to make amends. Janek and Amálka manage to escape together and become a constantly bantering couple in distress, unravelling the intrigue, deciphering the mysterious mark on Dietrich's arm and putting an old injustice to rest...
This turbulent and enjoyable adventure fairy tale is very much in the tradition of Czech fairy tale films, carried by likeable, unconventional characters and the ideas of the detailed escape story. The film was shot at attractive locations in the Czech Republic that are largely unknown in this country, such as Bouzova Castle and the castles of Hradec nad Moravicí and Hrádek u Nechanic.
