Where the poppies grow

War/History, France 2017

Where do the images of the First World War that haunt our imagination come from? Seeing the Great War, not just telling about it, but showing and embodying it: that's what comics offer us today. By questioning archives and history, the authors featured in this film engage in a dialogue with the depths of time. They resurrect the First World War in our imagination: their drawings are more than just lines. These major artists have made the Great War the main subject of their graphic narratives. In their company, we seek to sketch the fragmented memory of a drawn chronicle of 14-18.
