Oscar is young, creative, in love with his fantasy film-influenced art and has a huge problem: he lives in the deepest backwater of Newfoundland alone with his oddball father. Every now and then he puts make-up on his best friend Gemma and tries to cope with a traumatic experience from his childhood, which always reminds him that it can be dangerous to live openly gay in this town. On the side, the sensitive teenager works at a hardware store, where he meets the rebellious and rakishly attractive Wilder, who would rather smoke joints than sort screws. The film ''Closet Monster'', which has been showered with awards all over the world, lovingly and excitingly tells of Oscar's coming out, which is accompanied by a breathtakingly cool soundtrack and constantly blurs the line between fantasy and reality. A guest appearance by Isabella Rosselini is just as much of a surprise here as the eerily beautiful images that keep us hoping for a happy ending for Oscar until the very end. Extraordinary and imaginative - an unforgettable and visually rich viewing pleasure.
