Glassboy

Pino Gambassi (Andrea Arru) is eleven years old and has everything a boy could wish for. His room is huge and full of toys. If only he didn't have a rare hereditary disease that confines him to his parents' villa. So Pino is lonely, but he has a big dream: he wants to romp around outside in the square with Mavi's wild gang of children. When Pino cheers them on in a bike race, he is discovered by Mavi. She climbs onto his balcony and invites him to join the group. Full of a thirst for adventure, Pino faces up to his illness, Nonna Helena's nasty rules and his overprotective parents. Pino wants to show everyone that he too can have a normal life. The rare hereditary disease that Pino suffers from is called haemophilia. This disrupts blood clotting, which means that a child like Pino bleeds faster and more than a healthy child. Small cuts in the skin, treatment at the dentist or operations can lead to excessive bleeding, and a child with haemophilia is also prone to excessive bruising.
