Bosnia - 1993: In the middle of the Bosnian war, Marko, a Serbian soldier, observes the brutal attack by three comrades on Haris, a Muslim civilian. Marko intervenes and saves Haris, but is beaten to death by the angry soldiers. 2008: The war is over, but the wounds of the conflict are still open. Marko's father rebuilds a church. The son of one of Marko's murderers offers him help, which he reluctantly accepts. Marko's friend, a renowned surgeon in Belgrade, is faced with a terrible decision when he is asked to operate on one of the three soldiers on his deathbed. As for Haris, he is now living in Germany and faces a unique opportunity to settle his debt with his savior.
