Inspector Maigret

Hubert Vernoux, a wealthy upstart, is generlly hated. The people of Fontenay hate him because he collaborated with the enemy during the Second World War. His family by marriage, the impoverished noble family of the de Courcon, did not like his proletarian origins. When Hubert's cynical brother-in-law Robert is beaten to death and two more murders occur, the suspicions of the city's inhabitants are immediately directed against Vernoux. The angry people want to lynch him and his son Alain. A dangerous situation for Inspector Maigret... Based on the 42nd Maigret novel Maigret a peur, which appeared in 33 instalments in the daily newspaper Le Figaro between 19 May and 6 July 1953. The German translations all bear the title Maigret hat Angst.
