Ranger Lilja makes sure tourists don't leave their litter behind at Vatnajökull National Park, Iceland's second most popular natural sight. The national park stretches around Europe's largest glacier which is shrinking at great speed. No other Icelandic glacier loses so much mass every year: due to melting and glacier calving, it shrinks 400 meters year after year. In Iivantiira, Finland, nature photographer Ville lives in great solitude, surrounded by nature. The forests of the area are home to more bears than people. They cohabit with lynx, moose and many birds. Ville also has a large cabin all to himself. The contrast between Iivantiira and Moscow could not be greater. 12 million people live in the Moscow metropolitan area. So does Nikolai, a young doctor who shares an apartment with his mother, who is also a doctor. In spite of his job in a private clinic, Nikolai cannot afford his own apartment. Valeri from the Romanian village of Berende is the only young person in his village. He dreams of becoming a cab driver in Romania's capital Sofia. Jana Trebova from the small Czech town of Česká Třebová wants to follow in her father's footsteps and become a conductor.
